A recount for the Division of Herbert commenced on Thursday and counting is continuing over the weekend.

The formal Declaration of the Poll for each division will occur prior to the return of writs on or before 8 August.

Senate ballot papers securely packaged and transported to Central Senate Scrutiny sites across Australia are being progressively scanned for inclusion in the count. Once captured, these preferences are also being verified by a human operator with the entire process open for observation by appointed scrutineers.

As a result of the recent changes to the Senate voting system, this is the first election where the AEC is capturing individual preferences on 100 per cent of Senate ballot papers. This process will continue over the next couple of weeks.
