AEC Media Section

The Media Section is responsible for the national co-ordination of stakeholder communication and liaison, with responsibility for handling customer enquiries, media relations, specific campaigns to support electoral events, electronic and printed publications and the content management of online services. The area promotes public understanding of and participation in the electoral process through a range of activities such as:

  • Media Relations and issuing of Media Releases
  • Conducting public relations campaigns through print, radio and television media to encourage enrolment and voting
  • Promotional activities such as talks to special interest groups about electoral procedures, and information displays at public venues.
  • Management of the AEC's online services including the Internet, Intranet and various online applications such as the Electorate & Polling Place Search
  • Management of the AEC national email inquiry service
  • Management of a national inquiry 13 23 26 telephone service including the development and operation of an Election Call Centre service
  • Distribution of election results including the internet 'Virtual Tally Room', data feeds to the media and consolidated final results in various formats
  • Provision of interpreter and translation services including a range of multilingual pamphlets which provide information for electors on electoral procedures and the range of electoral services
  • Key internal communications
  • Production of the AEC Annual Report
  • Production of external publications and products including:
    • Electoral Newsfiles - a periodic bulletin containing factual information on electoral matters
    • Federal Electoral Boundaries and Results Maps
    • Divisional Profiles - providing demographic, geographic and historical information on each federal electoral Division
    • Elections Statistics
    • Electoral Pocketbook - a compendium of electoral information
