Nomination deadline looms for candidates in the Lyne by-election

Anyone interested in standing as a candidate in the Lyne by-election has less than a week to lodge his or her nomination with the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC).

AEC Divisional Returning Officer for Lyne, Vicki Holman, said today that nominations for the Lyne House of Representatives by-election must be received by 12noon, Thursday 14 August 2008.

“Both the completed nomination form and deposit must be received by the close of nominations at 12noon, 14 August 2008 and late nominations cannot be accepted under any circumstances,” Ms Holman said.

Nomination forms are available on the AEC's website at www.aec.gov.au, at any AEC office or by calling 13 23 26. 

A $500 deposit is required for a candidate to nominate for the House of Representatives.

Nominations must be received by the Divisional Returning Officer for Lyne, Vicki Holman at the AEC office: Shop 4, Manning Arcade, 20 Manning St Taree or by mail: PO Box 233 Taree NSW 2430. 

“I encourage interested candidates to lodge their nomination as early as possible in case there are issues to be resolved before the nomination can be accepted.

13 23 26,” she said.

To be eligible to nominate for the Lyne House of Representatives by-election, a person must be an Australian citizen aged 18 years or older and an elector entitled to vote, or a person qualified to become an elector.

Election day for the federal division of Lyne House of Representatives by-election is Saturday 6 September 2008.Voting is compulsory for Australian citizens aged 18 years and over and enrolled in the division of Lyne.
