Availability of Objections to Tasmania’s Federal Electoral Redistribution Proposal

22 September 2008

The Australian Electoral Officer and State Manager for Tasmania, Marie Neilson, announced today that written objections to the proposed redistribution of Tasmania’s federal electoral boundaries are now publicly available.

The objections are available for public inspection at the Australian Electoral Commission’s (AEC’s) State Office in Hobart and on the AEC’s website.

Ms Neilson said that individuals and organisations are welcome to lodge comments on the objections, which were received in response to the proposed redistribution.  Comments must be lodged before 6.00pm on Friday 3 October 2008.

Comments on objections may be lodged in one of the following ways:

  1. in person to the Australian Electoral Commission,
    2nd floor AMP Building, 86 Collins Street, Hobart, Tas, 7000;
  2. by mail to GPO Box 520, Hobart, Tas, 7001;
  3. by facsimile to (03) 6234 4268; or
  4. by email to tas.redistribution@aec.gov.au.

"The redrawing of the State’s federal electoral boundaries is a consultative process to ensure that each of Tasmania’s electoral divisions has, as near as possible, the same number of electors," Ms Neilson said.

For more information about the redistribution process visit the AEC website at http://www.aec.gov.au/ or call the AEC’s Hobart office on (03) 6235 0520.
