Public funding payments for Lyne and Mayo by-elections
The Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) has authorised the public funding payment to political parties and independent candidates for votes received at the 2008 Lyne and Mayo by-elections.
The total of the payments for the two by-elections is $298,912.22. Of the 12 parties and 7 independent candidates who contested the Lyne and Mayo by-elections, 5 parties and 2 independent candidates were eligible for payment.
Payments are calculated using an indexed sum per first preference vote. At the 2008 Lyne and Mayo by-elections each first preference vote was worth 218.940 cents.
In order to obtain public funding a candidate must obtain at least 4 per cent of the formal first preference vote.
