Enrol to Vote Week 2008
The AEC's second national Enrol to Vote Week is being held from 28 July to 3 August. During the Week, 17 and 18 year old students in over 1650 schools across Australia will be enrolling to vote.
This year’s theme
The focus of this year's event is on encouraging enrolment as an ongoing right and responsibility outside of federal election years, reminding students that there are other elections (state, local government and by-elections) for which they need to be ready.
About Enrol to Vote Week
Enrol to Vote Week was conceived and developed by the AEC in 2007 as part of a broader effort to address the challenge of encouraging and increasing youth enrolment before the federal election.
Between federal elections it is just as important to ensure that young people enrol to vote. An Enrol to Vote Week will be held each year through until the next federal election to provide a planned approach for working with schools to enrol 17 and 18 year old students.
In 2007, over 1700 schools participated by holding an enrolment event or activity for their students and returning completed forms to the AEC.
